The ACLU of Florida's statement on the  Miami-Dade County State Attorney  Katherine Fernandez Rundle's decision that her office will not be seeking charges against the four correctional officers allegedly involved in Darren Rainey’s death.

This statement comes from Howard Simon, ACLU of Florida Executive Director:

"Just because the state attorney found that the standards to secure a criminal conviction was not met does not mean that Corrections Officers did not do something horribly wrong."

"It is now imperative that a federal investigation, which we believe has been on the way, into a pattern and practice of brutality in Florida prison, including the death of Darren Rainey, continue."

"Changes need to be made in our Corrections Department to ensure that guards are held responsible when their actions, negligent or willfull, result in the death of an inmate."
