Candidates for Election to the Volusia/Flagler Chapter Board 2021

Mark Anderson:

Mark Anderson, 40, is a member of NAACP and AACS.  Mark is a decorated Army veteran, has a Ph.D. from Columbia College in Business Administration and Finance, and is married with 3 children.  Mark is quoted as saying “I truly believe in my spirit, to whom much is given, much is required, and that is something I live by daily.”

Felica Benzo:

Felica, a former 28-year medical professional, is the founder and the CEO of C.A.T.A.L.Y.S.T. Global Youth Initiatives, Inc./ C.A.T.A.L.Y.S.T., has created and sponsored the group mentoring program just for middle school boys called D.R.E.A.M. (Dynamic,  Responsible, Educated, Achieving, Men), is a sought after youth development speaker/ workshop provider and consultant.  She is the recipient of numerous civic and Business awards, a board member of the African- American Museum of the Arts Deland, Chairs the EJI Education Committee for Volusia Remembers and a member of the NAACP, the author of ‘Raising Kings’ and “  “ and a mother of three sons and grandmother of eleven.

Bob Brooks:

Bob has served in an administrative or managerial capacity of enterprises that improves the quality of life for disadvantaged persons and families while supporting community and economic development.  He has had positions in several governmental agencies in Missouri and Nebraska focusing on program development, evaluation and strategic planning, has a Master in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska.  He is a long-time supporter of the ACLU, and served as an at-large member of the ACLU of Florida state board of directors.

Cynthia Dodzik:

Cynthia has worked as a child welfare worker, case manager with persons with disabilities, patient advocate in a free health clinic, director of an organization working with Deaf persons, professor, free-lance ASL interpreter and teaches GED classes to inmates at the Flagler Detention Center.  She is a founding member of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Flagler and is a six-year citizen of Flagler County.

Cynthia Fisher:

Cynthia is the current President of the ACLU of Florida Volusia/Flagler Chapter and an active member of the Racial Justice Committee. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she provides affirming mental health care and support to the transgender and gender-expansive community and their loved ones through her private practice, Emergence Counseling Services. It has been her honor to lobby, on the local, state, and federal level, for important civil rights causes including transgender rights, fair housing, and election reform. Cynthia is a classically trained operatic soprano and has performed throughout Central Florida and Italy, formerly with the Central Florida Lyric Opera, and currently as half of the duo “Divas on Demand”. Cynthia lives in Holly Hill with Eric, her husband of 19 years.

Elisabeth Gustafson:

Elisabeth, born in Virginia, has lived in Osan, South Korea, spending many of her formative years there, and in Guam. Her family finally uprooted and moved to the US on September 10, 2001 - the devastating attacks of 9/11 happened the next day. The way the world changed post 9/11 had a great deal in forming who Elisabeth is today. Elisabeth is currently a contract thesis processor for major universities around the world, but her true passion lies in activism and leaving the world a better place for the future.  She currently lives in Palm Coast with her husband of six years and her 4-year-old daughter.

Alicia Keenon:

Alicia, a resident of Port Orange, is a writer, photographer, graphic designer, with experience in event coordination.  Alicia is the deputy director for a Phoenix-based nonprofit organization that serves challenged children through the arts.  Alicia has a varied history of political activism as a dedicated agent of change with a focus on women’s rights, reproductive rights, anti-racism, transgender advocacy, equal education opportunities, and climate change.  She holds master’s degrees in English Linguistics and Political Science, both of which are from Universitaet Kassel in Germany, where she grew up. She is currently a member of this Chapter’s Racial Justice Committee and the Anti-Racism Coalition of Volusia County.

Nicko Krueger:

Nicko is a 29-year-old Wisconsin transplant serving as Chair and Archivist of the Racial Justice Committee and Chair of the Communications Committee. He has been a board member since April of last year. In Wisconsin, his activism ranged from addressing homelessness and the Drug War to childcare for migrants getting their GED. After joining this ACLU chapter in 2019, Nicko served as Archivist for the Racial Justice Committee for almost a year before becoming Chair. He chaired the Communications committee since July and has presented on how white supremacists engage in dog-whistle politics online.

Jim Manfre:

Jim, a current resident of Palm Coat, has 25 year’s experience as a Prosecutor and Law Enforcement as Flagler County Sheriff, currently working as a practicing attorney in both Florida and New York.  He has served on the Boards of the Flagler County Rotary, the United Way, Advent Health Flagler Foundation, and the Family Life Center.  He also is a member of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, Open Society Foundation and is a member of this Chapter’s Police Transparency Committee.  Jim has a Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law and has been recognized with several awards for his efforts in public service.

Michelle McCoy:

Michele has been a public school teacher for many years and is an avid supporter of children’s issues and public education.  She is active in Volusia United Educators where she has served as Building Steward and Education Board Member.  She is a firm believer in the people’s right to live free from the interference of archaic and closed-minded laws.  She is the Chapter’s representative on the ACLU State Board and Serves as the current Chapter Secretary.
