Join Florida Coalition for Transgender Liberation (a directly impacted transgender and non-binary led volunteer coalition of 26 pro-trans organizations and faith groups), Florida Council of Churches, Planned Parenthood of North, South, and East Florida, Women's March Florida, QLatinx, allied legislators, and allied partner organizations are hosting an online press conference to speak out against the current legislative attack on transgender and LGBTQ+ youth.
Rather than addressing problems of unemployment, increased poverty, and equitable access to healthcare during the pandemic, GOP legislators in the Florida Legislature are fast-tracking hateful model bills that restrict transgender youth participation in sports (SB2012/HB1475) and force school staff to out LGBTQ+ students to their parents (HB582/SB241). Both pieces of legislation are model bills that are being pushed in other states around the nation. Both pieces of legislation are backed by known anti-LGBTQ+ groups, some of which have been labeled “hate groups” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
