FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MIAMI – The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida is available today to speak with members of the media about the continued push to urge Governor Crist’s veto of HB 1143, which interferes with private health care decisions and restricts private health insurance from offering abortion coverage. Legislators passed HB 1143 restricting access to abortion in Florida despite never vetting the bill through a single legislative committee, nor allowing an opportunity for public comment.

WHO: ACLU
WHAT: Media Availability to Discuss HB 1143 – the Abortion Bill
WHERE: ACLU offices – 4500 Biscayne Blvd, suite 340

A new poll shows that 55% of Floridians want the Governor to veto HB 1143, while only 31% are in favor of the bill. “This clearly shows that the people of Florida do not remove personal, private medical decisions from doctors and women and inject politicians into the exam room,” said Howard Simon, ACLU of Florida Executive Director.
