Miami-Dade County held our U.S. citizen client, Garland Creedle, on an ICE detainer in 2017. We filed a lawsuit with the Univeristy of Miami School of Law Immigration Clinic and Ira Kurzban arguing the county lacked the legal authority to comply with detainers and the detainer issued against our client lacked probable cause, in violation of the Fourth Amendment and state law. The case has been stayed indefinitely since March 2020. This is to allow discovery to proceed in a related class action with which our case has been partly consolidated--CFC et al. v. Miami-Dade County.
