The ACLU of Florida filed a lawsuit against the Florida Department of Corrections to determine how it figures out release dates that affect tens of thousands of people in prison and their families as well as its own internal planning.
It is important FDOC gets it right. Yet, FDOC evades public accountability and oversight when it refuses to share its ‘secret’ calculation. Without public access to the formula FDOC uses, we cannot applaud it for its good work or help it correct its calculations.
