“In a bold attack on personal freedoms, the Legislature is considering a proposal that will make it clear that Floridians can have no more privacy rights than allowed by federal law.

“In plain language, this proposal takes away your existing rights and is a stunning assault of one of the most honored and envied pillars of Florida government – a broad, individual right to privacy.

“Privacy keeps the hands and eyes of government out of your personal business. Obviously, some lawmakers think the government needs to be more involved in your personal, private affairs.

"With so many problems facing Florida, it’s beyond belief that some lawmakers think it’s a priority to punch holes in the basic freedoms guaranteed by our state Constitution.

"Ironically, while state lawyers are in federal court challenging the authority of the federal government to set national health care policy, this proposal goes in the opposite direction and requires that Floridians surrender their privacy rights on health care over to the federal government.

"The only difference I can think of is that this Legislature is all too willing to surrender when it comes to privacy and health care for women.”
