MIAMI – The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida today announced the continued expansion of its statewide presence with the addition of Benétta M. Standly as director of the Northeast Regional Office, located in Jacksonville.

“We welcome Benétta Standly from the ACLU of Georgia where she worked toward achieving racial justice for all Georgians. Under her leadership and direction we will accomplish even more significant milestones in the Northeast part of our state,” said Howard Simon, Executive Director, ACLU of Florida.

Benétta Standly joins the ACLU of Florida’s Northeast Regional Office as Director and brings her track record of previous work for the ACLU of Georgia where she led the effort to abolish capital punishment, restore voting rights to ex-felons and dismantle the school to prison pipeline. At the ACLU of Georgia, she served as Statewide Organizer and Public Policy Director, primarily focusing on increasing the ACLU’s presence throughout the state by encouraging members, volunteers, and supporters to participate in civic dialogue and play an active role in shaping public policy.

Prior to her time at the ACLU of Georgia she worked for L.A. (Los Angeles) Care Health Plan, the nation's largest public, non-profit Medicaid Managed Care Plan. She also worked for several years as a consultant to community-based non-profit organizations on a variety of issues, including strategic planning, IRS 501(c)(3) applications, grant writing, legislative advocacy, and board development. A native of Los Angeles, she attained both her bachelor’s of science in Public Health and master’s in public policy & administration at California State University.
