TAMPA – Please join the American Civil Liberties Union and Florida and The Studio @ 620 in a free Spoken Word Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on Wednesday, December 10 from 7 to 9 PM. Copies of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948 will be given away as long as supplies last. This week the cities of St. Petersburg, Tampa and Sarasota have issued proclamations honoring human rights. This event builds on that recognition and celebration of the dignity of us all.

The UDHR articulates that "recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world." The fundamental rights articulated in the UDHR include the right to life, liberty and security of person, the right to an adequate standard of living, the right to seek asylum, the right to freedom of expression, the right to education, and the right to freedom from torture, among others.
