Prohibiting Solitary Confinement for Youth
Prohibiting subjecting youth to solitary confinement, provides exceptions.
During every Florida Legislative Session, the ACLU of Florida works to accomplish positive reforms for civil liberties and civil rights and defend every Floridians' rights. Our legislative priorities this year cover a broad array of civil liberties issues including, criminal justice reform, LGBT rights, immigrant's rights, reproductive rights, religious liberty, and voting rights.
Prohibiting subjecting youth to solitary confinement, provides exceptions.
Prohibits DOC or local government from subjecting youth to solitary confinement; limits cell confinement for youth prisoners.
Prohibiting the use of solitary confinement; prohibiting the use of restrictive confinement for noncompliance, punishment, harassment, or retaliation for an inmate’s conduct; prohibiting youths, young adults, and inmates who have specified medical needs from being placed in restrictive confinemen
Increasing the prison-sentence threshold from 22 to 44 points points for certain offenders, thus providing that individuals who receive fewer than 44 points must receive a sanction other than prison (e.g., community control, probation, supervision, diversion).
Prohibits holding child being prosecuted as adult in jail or other facility intended or used for detention of adults.
Removes provisions allowing state attorney to request court to certify children of certain ages who commit specified crimes for prosecution as adults; revises circumstances under which state attorney may file information in cases involving children.
