The ACLU filed a lawsuit on behalf of 6 homeless people who had been targeted by Sarasota city code that criminalizes sleeping in public. The Code States that individuals found to be sleeping in public would be escorted to The Salvation Army where beds would be provided, but their facilities were constantly over capacity. The City of Sarasota agreed to stop targeting individuals founf to be in violation of city code and also provides that 10 more beds will be provided at the Salvation Army.
