2024 Legislative Priorities and Bill Tracker

Florida's 2024 legislative session officially begins on January 9, 2024, and ends sixty days later on March 8, 2024.

During this legislative session, we will continue to fight against ongoing efforts to take away Floridians’ rights and freedoms such as the escalating assault on free speech, reproductive freedom, and access to voting. We continue to push for reforms that increase justice for Floridians, including voting rights, free speech, immigrants’ rights, reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and racial justice.

Each year, the ACLU of Florida reviews thousands of bills introduced in the Florida Legislature for civil liberties implications, identifying those bills that we are going to advocate for or against and developing strategies accordingly. We educate legislators and the public about ACLU positions, draft legislation on priority issues, lobby on bills affecting civil liberties, testify or arrange for testimony on bills, and build coalitions to pursue pro-active legislative initiatives or battle anti-civil liberties legislation.

For the past several years, we have seen lawmakers fail to focus on what Floridians need - affordable housing, livable wages, health care, quality education, and employment opportunities. Instead, they have pushed through legislation that harms Floridians and further restricts their constitutional rights. All while further consolidating the power of the Governor at the expense of Floridians’ freedoms and our democracy.

We need your support and your advocacy to help resist the attacks on our freedoms and the drift toward authoritarianism that has characterized too much policymaking in Tallahassee.

Bill Tracking

We are monitoring hundreds of bills that span the breadth of the ACLU’s policy concerns. Below are the priority bills that we will be tracking throughout this legislative session.

HB 335 - Making it Harder to Pass Constitutional Amendments

Joint Resolution thwarting the will of the people by making it harder for Floridians to pass constitutional amendments safeguarding our basic liberties (voting access, public education, health care access, reduction of poverty, employment opportunities, and environmental protections).

HB 359 - Less Accurate Hand Counting of Ballots

Removes requirement for counties to use the most efficient and accurate ballot counting process. Current Florida Statutes require that counties must use electronic tabulation voting systems, which research has shown is more accurate and efficient than counting ballots by hand.
