70 Years of Answering Florida’s Call to Courage
Seventy years ago, the ACLU of Florida rose in resistance. It was formed to face state-sanctioned assaults on civil rights, when standing up for freedom came with real risk. Since then, we have stood with the people of Florida—defending those who have been silenced, sidelined, and stripped of their rights.
Today, as civil liberties face deliberate and escalating threats, we meet this moment with clear eyes and steadfast hearts. We are fighting with conviction. We are reimaging the future of our state in partnership with the communities we serve.
This is more than a commemoration—it is Florida’s call to courage.
In answering that call, we honor those who came before us. Their resistance shielded our communities. Their commitment to core liberties turned promises into reality. Their example reminds us: this call is not a choice, it is a charge we must carry forward.
Explore the rich history of those who dared to resist, stood for our constitutional values—and whose courage shaped our freedoms here in Florida.
