Clearwater - Pinellas Chapter Bill of Rights Dinner and Annual Meeting

March 5, 2020 @ 6:00 pm
@ 9:00 pm

Join the Pinellas Chapter for its Bill of Rights Dinner and Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 5.

Our keynote address comes from Julie Ebenstein, senior staff attorney with the ACLU Voting Rights Project, who will discuss the challenges around voting rights across the country and in Florida. We will also be joined by Micah Kubic, executive director of the ACLU of Florida.

This year's award receipients include two staunch supporters of civil rights in our community.

The Gardner W. Becket, Jr., Civil Liberties Award will be bestowed upon Reverend Andy Oliver, Senior Pastor of St. Petersburg’s Allendale United Methodist Church. By promoting democratic discourse and First Amendment principles, he has turned his church into a major venue for civil dialogue and moral regeneration, hosting numerous public events related to important social and political issues, including LGBTQ+ rights and voting rights.

The Irene Miller Award for Vigilance in Journalism will be bestowed upon Nancy McCann, senior investigative reporter, and her colleagues at The Crow’s Nest, the student newspaper serving the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg. Their vigilant reporting stand out as models of what a free press can accomplish under difficult circumstances. They are students, but they are also our teachers.

Tickets are $50 and include dinner. A cash bar wil also be available. Purchase your tickets today!

We look forward to celebrating with you on Thursday, March 5!
