The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Foundation of Florida seeks a Graphic Design intern.  The Graphic Design intern will work closely with the Digital Multimedia Strategist to achieve the organization’s goal of protecting the liberties that define our democracy. This position will be remote.
 
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida is an affiliate of the national ACLU, a national public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights.  For over 100 years, the ACLU has served as the nation’s primary protector of the liberties that define our democracy.  The organization implements its vital civil liberties mission in all 50 states in large part through affiliate entities such as the ACLU of Florida. Operating out of four offices—Miami (main), Tampa, Pensacola, and Jacksonville—the Florida affiliate has a budget of over $8 million and 55 staff members, placing it among the larger ACLU affiliates in the nation.  
 
The ACLU of Florida, the state’s largest civil rights and civil liberties organization, employs litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education to protect and promote a broad range of constitutional values and individual rights, such as freedom of speech, racial justice, right to privacy, religious liberty, criminal justice reform, voting rights, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, disability rights, and immigrants’ rights.  The ACLU of Florida litigates a broad range of complex constitutional cases in federal and state courts through direct representation, filing amicus briefs, and submitting administrative complaints to state and federal agencies.    
 
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
 
The Graphic Design Internship offers the opportunity to experience the breadth of the ACLU of Florida’s work and to interact with staff from different programs on a range of projects. Interns can expect to work on a variety of branding and key issue projects including supporting the organization’s digital asset management, the production of printed materials for a variety of purposes as well as graphics for the ACLU website(s), multimedia and social media channels.

  • Time Commitment: The internship requires a part-time commitment of 20 hours per week.
  • Internship Duration: Internships are a 10-week period (part-time). Fall interns are expected to start September 27.
  • Stipend: A stipend of $15 per hour is available for those students who do not receive course credit. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit.

 
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Under the supervision of Digital Multimedia Strategist, interns will gain experience by working on:

  • Website and multimedia graphics and design collateral
  • Social media promotional design
  • Online advertising design support; buttons, banners
  • Print project support
  • Creative process coordination as directed by the supervisor
  • Support photo and video asset management system when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Interns should possess the following:

  • Digital design and/or print experience on Mac OS
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment
  • A commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice
  • Commitment to the mission of the ACLU

NICE TO HAVE (BUT NOT REQUIRED)

  • Familiarity with Canva
  • Familiarity with collaborative workspace tools, including Asana and Slack
  • Premiere, After Effects, or video editing skills
  • Ability to create custom illustrations using Adobe programs or ProCreate
