Plantation - Broward County Chapter Annual Meeting

March 30, 2019 @ 12:00 pm 3:00 pm
From kicking journalists out of press rooms to denouncing criticism as 'fake news,' it's no secret that President Trump isn't a fan of free speech.
On Saturday, March 30, explore what freedom of the press actually means right now and why it's critical to advancing civil rights at our Broward County Chapter's 2019 Annual Meeting.
While President Trump tries to portray journalists as the “enemies” of Americans, it’s his attacks on the press that amount to an assault on the cornerstone of American democracy: the First Amendment. Our guest speaker, Maura Jane Farrelly, associate professor and chair of American Studies at Brandeis University, will explore the challenges journalists face as they try to hold elected leaders accountable. She’ll also discuss how attacks on the press threaten democracy.
We'll also be joined by ACLU of Florida Executive Director Dr. Micah Kubic who will talk about his vision for the ACLU of Florida and the most pressing civil liberties issues facing our community right now. We will also elect our chapter board members.
Refreshments will be served. RSVP today to let us know if you can make it!
