@ 8:30 pm

Join the Greater Miami Chapter on Friday, November 2, for the Bill of Rights Reception and Awards!

Raise a toast to freedom. Enjoy the live jazz stylings of Justine Garcia. Savor delicious hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the open bar as we honor four leaders who defend our Bill of Rights.

Howard Simon, executive director of the ACLU of Florida, will receive our Stanley Milledge Award for his lifetime of successful advocacy and for building this affiliate into such a powerful force for civil liberties.

Marisa Omori and Nick Petersen, assistant professors of sociology at the University of Miami, will receive our Rodney Thaxton Racial Justice Award. Their research focuses on the origin and maintenance of racial inequalities in criminal justice institutions. Together, they authored the break-through report Unequal Treatment: Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Miami-Dade Criminal Justice, published by the ACLU of Florida and its Greater Miami Chapter.
