NR Hines joined the ACLU of Florida in the role of Policy Strategist in August 2021.
NR earned a B.A. in both Spanish and History as a Ruffin Humanities Scholar at Georgia Southern University. They then went on to earn their Juris Doctor at Stetson University College of Law. While in law school, they began their career of service, leading the campus chapter of If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice and interning for the City of St. Petersburg Legal Department. Upon graduating, they received the Public Service Fellows Recognition Award for their commitment to community, public service, and pro bono work.
Before joining the ACLU, NR worked as an Assistant Public Defender where they were able to see the criminal justice system moving in real time, for real people. They went on to apply their advocacy skills to legislative work, as a Legislative Aide to former Representative Jennifer Webb in the Florida House of Representatives. While working for the Florida House, they were able to help pass bills related to children’s mental health and long-term care for seniors.
