Jennifer Garrett joined the ACLU of Florida in May 2021 as the Media Strategist. She is a creative Afro-Latina activist with 10 years of journalism, entrepreneurship, and nonprofit communications experience. As the Media Strategist with the ACLU of Florida, she develops and executes communications strategies for a broad range of projects, campaigns, and litigation efforts. In her previous career, Jennifer served as the Director of Communications and Coaching for a local organization empowering other nonprofit community leaders. She has owned two business startups and written for local PR firms, magazines, and newspapers such as The Weekly Challenger, B2 Communications, St. Pete Magazine, and Blu Tampa Magazine. As a 12-year resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., she has organized fundraisers for immigrant communities, marched with peaceful protestors, participated in political campaigns, and advocated for racial justice and LGBTQIA+ rights. Her justice work has been featured in the Tampa Bay Times and the LaFe National podcast Con Confianza. As a strong team player, Jennifer values producing quality content that communicates justice for all marginalized communities. She earned her B.A. in journalism and media studies at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.
