Devan Cheaves is the Mid-Florida Regional Organizer for the ACLU of Florida. She is a native Floridian and is an alumna of Florida State University where she studied Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. During her tenure at Florida State, Devan was an active student leader and campus organizer, developing her foundation in civic engagement both on and off campus with organizations such as the American Cancer Society and the FSU Chapter of the NAACP. Since graduating in 2012 Devan has gone on to become a dynamic grassroots organizer and activist with over five years of experience in community engagement, advocacy, and campaigns throughout the state. Although she has worked on a number of important issues, she is most passionate and well-versed in the "school-to-prison pipeline," restorative justice, and criminalization issues. Devan brings impressive community building, digital communications, direct advocacy skills and training development, along with significant understanding of the importance of strategic organizing through an intersectional lens.
