About the awards
The Gardner W. Beckett, Jr. Civil Liberties Award
Recipients demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the basic civil liberties, principles, and values inherent in The Bill of Rights. Their contributions address concerns within the State of Florida with emphasis on the region served by our Chapter —Pinellas County and the Tampa Bay Area.
The Irene Miller Vigilance in Journalism Award
This award recognizes consistent, objective and comprehensive reporting on the actions of governments, particularly in Pinellas County and its municipalities. The award is intended not for editorializing, nor for a specific article or series, but for the consistent, vigilant reporting of public affairs.
