Black State Legislators et al. v. Moore

Plaintiffs

The class action lawsuit was brought on behalf of the Florida Conference of Black State Legislators, People United To Lead The Struggle for Equality, Inc., Brothers of the Same Mind, Inc., Inner City Grassroots Civil Coalition, and Reginald Greenlee, Joseph Brown, Milton McCloud, Hollis Horton.  The lawsuit challenges the state's failure to assist ex-felons in applying for the restoration of their civil rights, including the right to vote.

Defendants
Michael Moore, in his official capacity as Secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections.

Attorneys
The plaintiffs in this case are represented by attorneys with the Florida Equal Voting Rights Project.  They are: Randall C. Berg, Esq., JoNel Newman, Esq., Peter M. Siegel, Esq., of the Florida Justice Institute, Randall Marshall, Esq., of the ACLU Foundation of Florida, Charles F. Elsesser, Jr. Esq., of Florida Legal Services, Inc.

This lawsuit is the first court action filed by the Florida Equal Voting Rights Project, a new project of the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Florida, in conjunction with the Florida Justice Institute and Florida Legal Services.
