October Case of the Month
Shank v. State of Florida: Protecting Anonymous Hate Speech
In order to help bring a better understanding of the Bill of Rights, the ACLU of Florida is initiating a new feature: Case of the Month. Each month, we will highlight either a current case before the courts or past landmark decisions. In discussing the case, we hope to offer extensive learning materials, including balanced information on the key legal issues in the lawsuit, the attorneys, plaintiffs and defendants involved, lesson plans, teacher handouts and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's).
For October, we have selected a recent controversial case involving the protection of anonymous hate speech: Shank v. State of Florida.
The Case of the Month is designed to be a resource tool for teachers and students, as well as a good way for the general public to keep informed about some of our hottest cases of the moment.
