Local Civil Libertarians Announce Formation of Lee County Chapter
of the American Civil Liberties Union

A public announcement will be made Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, regarding the formation of a Lee County Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida. The event will take place on the steps of the Old Lee County Courthouse, 2120 Main Street, at 6 p.m.
Florida ACLU Executive Director Howard Simon will address the media, as will Lee County ACLU-FL Chairperson John Szymonik. Other ACLU officials and local officials may attend. Mr. Simon and Mr. Szymonik will be available for questions after the presentation. The ACLU works to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people of this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The new Lee County Chapter is the 14th local ACLU Chapter in Florida. There are approximately 400 ACLU members residing in Lee County.
