The American Civil Liberties Union, Northeast Florida Chapter, is dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil liberties in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, and St. Johns counties.

Fair districting

Have you signed the Fair Districting petitions yet? Florida legislative and congressional districts will be redrawn after the 2010 census. Districts should be drawn to give each voter approximate equality, which can be achieved by ensuring not only that each district is composed of about the same number of voters, but that each district also is composed of compact and contigous areas. With your help, constitutionally mandated standards will stop members of the Legislature from rigging the process to benefit themselves.

Go to http://www.aclufl.org/fair_districts/ to download the petitions. (There are two! Sign both!) Print extra copies for your family, friends, and co-workers and mail them to the address on the petition.
