The Greater Tampa ACLU and USF Art and Art History Theater Department students are going to be presenting a CameraHeads performance protest in Ybor City at WMNF.org 88.5 FM community radio/web Tropical Heat Wave events (http://www.WMNF.org/heatwave, http://WMNF.org/events/419) on Saturday, 16 May 2009, starting around 7:00 p.m.. The Greater Tampa ACLU invites all our members and guests to join in the fun and protest.
The Camerahead Project calls attention to the growing prevalence of CCTV (surveillance) cameras in public places, including Ybor City. The Cameraheads, artists with huge surveillance cameras for heads and dressed in brightly colored suits, will interact with people on the street, and with the street festival activities of Greater Tampa ACLU is staging a bit of theater at the WMNF.org Tropical Heatwave, walking around with giant cameras on their heads to get people thinking about what it means to have their public spaces under constant surveillance.
