Jacksonville: Chapter President Ken Hurley will discuss the origins of the civil rights movement at 10:30 a.m. September 14 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of St. Augustine, 2487 A1A South, in Anastasia Island. Miami: There will be a town hall meeting on the civil liberties implications of the USA PATRIOT Act from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. September 10. The location is TBA.  For more information, call Cheryl Roberts at 305-576-2337 ext. 17.

Pinellas: Volunteers will be staffing ACLU booths at the annual Circus McGurkus Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 25. The festival is located on the north shore of St. Petersburg's Lake Maggiore (Union St. at 28th Ave. South). They will also have a Banned Books booth set up on November 2 at the St. Petersburg Times Reading Festival, which will be held on the campus of Eckerd College, 54th Avenue South and 40th Street. Sarasota: The annual meeting will be at 2 p.m. November 1 at the Fruitville Library Auditorium, 100 Coburn Road, in Sarasota. For more information, call Frank Dunn at 941-379-8103.

Tallahassee: The chapter is co-sponsoring a rights restoration workshop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 4 at the Jefferson Elementary School Full Service Building, 1490 West Washington Street, in Monticello. Treasure Coast: The chapter is sponsoring a talk entitled "Decyphering the USA PATRIOT Act" from 2 to 4 p.m. September 13 at the  Jack F. Armstrong Wing of Blake Library, 2351 SE Monterey Road, in Stuart. ("Use of the Blake Library meeting rooms does not imply library endorsement of the aims, policies, or activities of any group using the room.") In celebration of Banned Books Week from September 21-27 the chapter is co-sponsoring a Banned Books display of censored works and commonly challenged literary classics during regular library hours at the Morningside Branch Library, 2410 Morningside Blvd., in Port St. Lucie. For additional information on either event call Gene Marshall at 772-871-9229. The chapter is co-sponsoring a screening and discussion on  Fahrenheit 451 from  2 to 4 p.m. September 22 at the Ft. Pierce Downtown Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane, in Ft. Pierce. There will be another movie discussion at 5:30 p.m. September 23 at the Zora Neal Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Ave. D, in Ft. Pierce. In celebration of Banned Books Week, the chapter is co-sponsoring a Harry Potter Book Discussion from 4:30 to 6 p.m. September 26 at the Ft. Pierce Downtown Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane. Reservations are required for the Harry Potter event. For more information, please call Beverly Klemenc at 772-462-2787. The chapter is organizing a fund-raising event during Banned Books Week. The exact date/time and location is TBA.  There will be another forum on the USA PATRIOT Act from 7 to 9 p.m. October 16 at the Okeechobee Library, 206 SW 16th St. For more information call Khatanga Von Heitman at 863-763-9675. There will be a Bill of Rights Birthday Party from 3 p.m. until sunset on December 15 at the Pinewood Park Pavilion, located on the corner of Georgia Avenue and US1 in Fort Pierce.
