"New Faces at the ACLU of Florida"

December 2002 Edition of the ACLU of Florida Newsletter

A warm welcome to two new members of the ACLU of Florida staff.  Elaina Ozrovitz, our new Development Director, arrived at the ACLU of Florida after working for four years in the fundraising department of Daily Bread Food Bank, a South Florida hunger-fighting organization. While there, she led the Food Bank's grant department and helped organize many successful fundraising events.

Her duties at the ACLU of Florida include managing our major gifts and membership recruitment programs.  She will also be coordinating the planning of our 24th Annual Nelson Poynter Award Dinner next spring.

Elaina was previously managing editor for a monthly big game hunting, bird hunting and fly fishing newsletter publisher, and an environmental activist with Clean Water Action.   She received her bachelor's degree in Politics with a minor in Environmental Affairs from the University of Miami.

She lives in North Miami Beach with her husband Kevin and her two daughters, Ellie, age 13, and baby Abby. Please feel free to call Elaina if you have questions about membership or tax-deductible contributions at (305) 576-2337, ext. 13.

Lisa Ford, the ACLU of Florida's new part-time bookkeeper, joined the affiliate staff in September 2002. She is responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping activities that include paying our bills, processing payroll and providing financial support for our chapters. A former technical staffing recruiter, she has extensive office management and bookkeeping experience. She previously worked as a bookkeeper for the Internal Revenue Service and as an Italian Payroll Specialist for Carnival Cruise Lines in Miami. A former staff writer for the Miami-based Platinum Magazine, Lisa also has experience working on multi-media advertisement campaigns to promote news and entertainment programming.

In June, she began working for the ACLU of Florida as a volunteer coordinator for the organization's campaign to fight the repeal of the Miami-Dade Human Rights Ordinance. In that capacity, she helped recruit a team of 100 volunteers who helped with phone banking, canvassing and distributing campaign materials.  Lisa also worked as a volunteer on the Janet Reno gubernatorial campaign.  Some of her other volunteer activities include serving as a recruiter at media events and film festivals for Miami-Dade's College of Entertainment Sciences.
