Chapter Happenings

Jacksonville: Chapter President Ken Hurley spoke to the Penney Farms retirement community on Feb. 24 in Clay County.  His talk entitled, "The USA PATRIOT Act: Safety and Freedom ? Or, Why Should We Care? It's Only the Constitution,"  focused primarily on the importance of balancing civil liberties and national security in the wake the tragic terrorist attacks that led to the passage of the USA Patriot Act. The chapter also participated in a discussion on Feb. 28 about voting rights and redistricting sponsored by the First Coast Council of Conservative Citizens.  Upcoming events: The chapter is sponsoring another civil rights restoration workshop on March 23 in Nassau County. Tallahassee:

The chapter's annual meeting will be at 7 p.m. March 29 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tallahassee, 2810 N. Meridian Rd., Tallahassee. There will be discussion on civil liberties in the wake of 9-11. For more information, call Chapter President Chet Kaufman at 850-668-1946.

Treasure Coast: The chapter is inviting local artists and interested civil libertarians to attend a public forum from 6 to 8 p.m. April 16 on artistic expression and the First Amendment.  The event will be held at the Florida Room of the Vero Beach Community Center, 2266 14th Avenue.
