"Live Television Show on Civil Liberties Airs April 3"
"Freedom's Watchdog," the ACLU of Florida's weekly television show on civil liberties, will air on Wednesdays, starting April 3, on Cable-TAP Community Channel 36 in Miami-Dade County.
The live call-in show will tackle topics such as national security and civil liberties, police misconduct, racial profiling, school vouchers and the death penalty. Viewers are invited to call (305) 995-2111 from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays to comment on the topics being discussed or to ask questions.
The April 3rd show will address a new anti-terrorism regulation ? implemented by the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles ? that steers non-citizens to four driver's license offices in South Florida for all business, including registering changes of address and renewing driver's licenses.
The ACLU of Florida, along with other immigrants' advocacy groups including the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center and the American Immigration Lawyers Association's South Florida Chapter, recently sent a letter to Governor Bush urging him to abandon the hastily enacted rule which discriminates against non-citizens seeking licenses in Florida.
Invited guests on the April 3rd show include immigrants' rights advocates and a DMV spokesperson who will walk viewers through the drivers license application process.
ACLU: Freedom's Watchdog airs at 3 p.m. Wednesdays and repeats at 7 p.m. Thursdays and 6 p.m. Sundays on Channel 36, which can be seen on the following cable systems in Miami-Dade: 24 Adelphia North Dade; 55 Moffat Communications; 31 ATT Aventura, Kendall and North; 12 Bell South; 15 ATT West, and 24 ATT Miami, Opa-Locka.
