Chapter Happenings
Gulf Coast: A group of civil libertarians along the Gulf Coast are forming an ACLU chapter in Lee County. The group will hold its first organizational meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. June 19. If you live in the Ft. Myers and Cape Coral area and would like to help get the new chapter off the ground, please call Jessica Connor at the ACLU state office at (305) 576-2337.
Miami: After serving as a President of one of the ACLU of Florida's most active chapters, John de Leon will step down as head of the Greater Miami Chapter to take a job in Bogotá, Colombia, where he'll spend the next two years helping to revamp Colombia's justice system.
Treasure Coast: The chapter recently elected Palm City resident Ron Urick as president. A retired professor at Detroit's Wayne State University, Urick was an executive board member of the university's chapter of the American Association of University Professors. The chapter covers St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.
