1998 Annual Report
We wish to thank all Florida ACLU members as well as those who made tax deductible contributions to the ACLU Foundation of Florida.
Your generosity gave our Legal Program the resources to file suit on behalf of Duval County school children who stood up against sectarian prayers, invocations and benedictions at official school functions and to protect the rights of hundreds of daylaborers who were illegally arrested in Miami on a charge of loitering for purposes of seeking temporary employment.
Also because of your generosity we were able to serve as a voice in the Florida Legislature for Floridians who did not want their state government to sell drivers license photos and other personal information to private companies, to impose restrictions on a women's right to choose, or to use tax dollars to fund vouchers (now disguised as "opportunity scholarships") for parochial schools.
And your generosity allowed us to expand our public outreach efforts by providing ACLU materials and speakers through our Speakers Bureau to visit schools and community organizations throughout the state. You have also allowed us to make civil liberties information available to members of the nonEnglish speaking community.
We have already made a good start in 1999 by introducing a Spanish language web page , fighting the latest round of anticivil liberties legislation in the Florida Legislature, and challenging abuses by government agencies throughout Florida.
All of these efforts would not be possible without the support of our more than 10,000 "cardcarrying" members of the Florida ACLU and the many contributors who make additional taxdeductible donations.
