ACLU of Florida Accomplishments
The ACLU of Florida works to keep the spirit of the Bill of Rights alive. We protect those individual rights most people take for granted: freedom of speech, press, religion and the separation of church and state are necessary components for a free society. However, even today, these rights are constantly being challenged.
Whether the issue involves keeping organized prayer out of the public schools, protecting a student sculptor from censorship or challenging school voucher schemes that siphon much-needed tax dollars to private, sectarian schools - the ACLU is there. Our job is protecting the Bill of Rights regardless of whose rights are in jeopardy. History teaches us that we must protect those at the extremes of society to safeguard the rights of those of us in the mainstream.
